That Office Chair Hurts My Back

Here is a script for those of us who want to say that our back, neck, or hips hurt because of the furniture.  It hurts as soon as we sit on the chair, so it must be the chair.  Well, think about this:  There are so many people sitting on the same kind of chair and feeling just fine, maybe your pain is from something else…

Tap on any or all of your points while you say this:

  • Even though I am in so much pain, I accept myself;
  • Even though my back hurts and it’s because of the chair, I accept myself;
  • Even though I am tired and frustrated with this pain, maybe if I get a new chair, it will feel better:
    • my chair hurts
    • my back hurts
    • sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn’t
    • I wonder why I am the only one complaining
    • they have the same chair and they are OK
    • sitting on this chair reminds me of my back
    • it feels like someone is sitting on my back
    • I am so frustrated
    • I spend so many hours in this chair
    • I want to sit somewhere else
    • I want to sit on something else
    • I am really tired of the pain
  • Even though I have this connection between my pain and my chair, I choose to imagine that the problem is not the chair
  • Even though my pain is obviously a result of sitting in this chair, what if it’s not
  • Even though I have so many stresses in my life, wouldn’t it be nice to see this chair as a friend which comforts me during my stress
    • that’s ridiculous
    • my back is my chair
    • my chair is my back
    • my chair represents my stress
    • the stress from today
    • the stress from yesterday
    • the stress from last year
    • I wish my chair could be my comfort
    • I choose to disconnect the chair with my pain
    • somehow
    • I choose for my body to find a comfortable and relaxed sensation when I sit on this chair
    • but the chair is so old and worn
    • but the chair is my greatest problem
    • or is it

You can borrow benefits by choosing another issue and another thing to blame.  Then tap using the words above, and see if you can create a healthy disconnect between your pain and the meaning you attach to that pain.

All the best,

      I sit in school for 8 hours a day on a really hard chair! Maybe if I experience back pain today, I’ll try your script! :) And your entire blog looks great! Keep up the great work!
